Matthew Elwell's Biography
Matthew was born whilst his musician parents rented a room in Backwell Hill House in Bristol, a grade II listed mansion owned by Artist, Philosopher and composer William Arkle. He was named after Matthew Manning, a best-selling author and alleged psychic healer who visited the house to perform regular workshops.

In his teens, Matthew wrote several full length and short screenplays, and at 17-years-old, with the budget of £5000, shot his first short film on Super-16mm film stock, acting as cinematographer, director, and editor.

Matthew graduated Stourbridge College of Art and went on to study Screenwriting for Film and TV in Bournemouth Media School. He was subsequently a Finalist in the Co-Operative Festival for Young Filmmakers, a Finalist in the Euroscript Screenwriting Competition, a Cordelia Award Finalist, and winner of Best Drama in the International Premier Screenwriting Talent Competition for Vibe TV.

Matthew has also worked full time in the Healthcare setting for the last 20 years, including Cardiac Care, Older Persons Mental Health, Adult Mental Health (including Intensive Care), Child and Adolescent Mental Health, and Paediatrics.
​
He decided to pen his first novel "Kinderland" in 2020, and in 2022 released a memoir focussing around his late teens to early twenties. His next novel "Green Skies Falling" marks a return to historical fiction, and is due in 2025.
​
Matthew has one son, Ben, a teacher for children with additional learning needs. He has been married for the past 15 years to Gail, a Nurse and Healthcare Educator. They currently reside in Pembrokeshire, Wales, UK.
